How can Smetana’s symphonic poems Má vlast (My Country) sound when reinterpreted by contemporary artists, according to the original descriptions of the composer who lost his hearing while composing this iconic works? The ensemble Brno Contemorary Orchestra (BCO), under the dramaturgy of Viktor Pantucek, approached six contemporary composers and presented the first iteration of a project called Bedřich Smetana’s Slyshinas at the festival Exposition of New Music 2024. One hundred years after Smetana composed his first poem Vyšehrad. Here is my participation in this project, which was freely inspired by Vltava (The Moldau) part and Semtana’s description.
