Ladislav Železný (1979) was born in Jindřichův Hradec and currently lives in Mnichovice (Prague-east district). He graduated from the PaedDr. Jan Svoboda School of Intermedia, Art College of Ceramic in Bechyně and the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Brno University of Technology, where he later worked as an assistant for sound applications and external educator. As a freelancer he collaborated with Pixl-e studio, Dílna Organic, and also with the Faculty of Arts of Charles University on the project CS 38-89. As a music director and sound designer for Czech Radio, he has been engaged in the development of sound design for radio plays and drama works, and since 2013 he has focused as a dramaturge on unconventional music and new forms of radio production, especially with reference to the experimental tradition in art. He curates the R{A}DIO{CUSTICA} project, where among other things he realizes special concert events, live broadcasts or recordings and prepares the programme show Radioateliér associated with exclusive premiere series PremEdition of Radioateliér. For several years now he has been involved in one of Europe’s biggest media bridges – the one-day radio festival Art’s Birthday – Euroradio Ars Acustica Special Evening, which is part of the global conceptual celebration of Art’s Birthday. He has been dealing in activities related to broadcasting, radio, live broadcasts and ether since his studies at the university in Brno. As one of the authors, he participated in the broadcasting of Lemurie TAZ – independent on-line radio platform, which is connected with the beginnings of the experimental space ROXY/NoD in Prague.

The radio projects he has collaborated on and his artistic or dramaturgical activities have won numerous awards in his country (Prix Bohemia Radio) and abroad (Prix Marulič, Grand Prix Nova, Palma Ars Acustica, Phonurgia Nova, Prix Italia, Prix Europe, Karl-Sczuka-Preis).

Since 2005 he has also been working as author of sound installation and intermedia creator, musician and sound performer. During the years 2006-11, he was musically contributed in non-verbal theatre and contemporary dance projects (Ponec, Alfred ve dvoře, Štúdio tanca). In 2011 he was one of the ten finalists of the Europe – a sound panorama project at ZKM. He creates or has created various sound and music compositions for short films, radio plays and audio books. He collaborates with the theatre group Boca Loca Lab. His work concentrates on sound art, listening, soundscapes, gathering sound, sound footage, sound specific and handmade musical instruments and silence. As a non-cello player, he promotes the Left Hand Universe technique.
